The Group Managing Director of Sahara Power Group, Kola Adesina, has said if the power sector cannot guarantee 24 seven days a week electricity to Nigerians, then it has failed.

He said this on Tuesday in Abuja, while speaking to journalists, shortly after he was conferred as an Honorary Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).

The honorary conferment ceremony was held during the 2022 National Engineering Conference, Exhibition, and Annual General Meeting of the NSE, with the theme, ‘Advancing the frontiers of Communication and Digital Economy in Nigeria’.

“Until we can guarantee 24/7 electricity to Nigerians, we have failed. The quantum of energy in the system today is absolutely insufficient for our population. Our population is growing phenomenally, whereas the infrastructure that needs to deliver the key services to serve as the engine to grow the GDP is lagging behind,” he said.

He also said the alignment of value chains in the nation’s power sector will improve the quality of its services.

“It is a value chain for a reason. An engineer is a problem solver. He is somebody that sees a problem and finds a solution to it. The solution for us has always been ‘how do we ensure that the natural resources we have that can generate electricity are appropriately and optimally utilized?’.

“The moment we can get the gas issue resolved, the moment we can get generations into locations where there is off-taker and retransmission facilities are valued, then to the people ultimately in distribution,” Adesina said.
