A former Vice Chancellor of the Adekunle Ajasin University (AAU), Akungba, Prof. Nahzeem Olufemi Mimiko, has said trade unions in universities must be restrained for effective governance.
Prof. Mimiko stated this on Monday while delivering a keynote address at a seminar organised by the Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy (ISGPP).
Mimiko spoke on the theme: ‘Getting Our Universities Back on Track: Conversation on Higher Education in Nigeria’.
He said: “To achieve effective university governance, there is need to rein in the unions or our universities won’t be able to compete globally. Unions want to be consulted in everything; including management of funds, and even appointments.”
