Four staff unions of the Lagos State University (LASU), on Monday, locked out the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagboun, and students as tertiary institutions in the state resume after the COVID-19 lockdown.
The unions involved in the protest are; the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT)
Members of the aforementioned unions stood at the institution’s gate as at 7:00 am on Monday preventing members of staff from gaining entry into the University.
This is as a result of non-payment of salary increment as promised by the Lagos State Government over a year ago.
The protesting members claimed that other Lagos State workers had received the increment but all the tertiary institutions in the state were yet to be included in the payment.
The Lagos State Government had, last week, directed tertiary institutions in the state to reopen on Monday September 14.
