Unilorin murder: Kwara AG seeks to call additional witnesses

A Kwara State Judge, Justice Adebayo Yusuf, has fixed January 26 for the continuation of the trial of the eight suspects who allegedly raped and murdered Blessing Olajide Omowumi, a 300 level student of the University of Ilorin.

The judge adjourned the suit after the prosecution team, led by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Salman Jawondo (SAN) to move a motion for additional witnesses.

The defence counsels, in their submissions, informed the court that they would be responding to the motion at the next adjourned date.

The deceased was found dead in her home on June 2, 2021, “With her mouth gagged with clothes, her hands tied to the back, bruises on her private part and a piece of paper on her chest containing a message: ‘Unilorin doesn’t forgive.

The suspects are facing 11 counts bordering on murder, rape, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, among others.

The trial had resumed this month following the conclusion of the trial within the trial last year.
