The Registrar of the University of Ilorin (Unilorin), Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, has said that the male staff of the university will now be entitled to 14 days of paternity leave.
Mr Alfanla said that the development was contained in the newly revised Conditions of Service for staff of the university.
The registrar noted that the inclusion of paternity leave aligned with contemporary workplace practices that acknowledged the importance of work life balance.
He said, “Paternity leave is for serving male officers whose spouse deliver. The period of the leave shall be 14 working days. Where the family of a male officer adopts a child under four months old, the officer will similarly enjoy same.”
He cited Section 5 of the University of Ilorin Act CAP U7 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2010 as the legal basis for the revision.
He noted that the update marked a significant change from the previous Conditions of Service which were last revised in November, 2014.
