An associate professor at the University of Lagos, Dr Kadiri Akeem Babalola, has been accused by an undergraduate (name withheld) of rape.
According to the student, Babalola raped her when she went to his office over her result.
According to the student, the incident occurred on August 16.
A non-governmental organisation, Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation (InclusiveSWEF), where the victim reported the case, said rather than Dr Kadiri to attend to her result issues, he allegedly raped her.
The NGO further reported the case to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.

Responding to the matter, the authorities of the institution said they were aware of the situation and cooperating with the police.
In a statement, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, Head, Communication Unit for the University of Lagos, said, ” We are aware of an ongoing investigation of staff. The University of Lagos Management, on Monday, August 28, 2023, received a letter from the Nigeria Police Force inviting a staff of the University for questioning.
The staff was immediately informed of this development and advised to comply. On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, the staff complied. While we are not yet privy to the full details of the incident that led to the arrest of the staff, we are fully aware that the investigation is ongoing, and we are cooperating with security agencies to ensure that the matter is resolved in the interest of justice.
“Management, once again, reiterates its commitment to ensuring that justice is served, and encourages students, faculty, and staff to continue to go about their legitimate pursuit.”
