The University of Lagos Alumni Association, FCT branch, has awarded scholarships to brilliant but indigent students of public secondary schools in the FCT.

The award ceremony was graced by the President of the Unilag Alumni Association, Engr (Dr) Ifeoluwa Oyedele, while the FCTA was represented by the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr Danlami Hayyo.

Presenting the N2.5m scholarships, the FCT branch Chairman, Alhaji Aliu Akoshile, said the 24 beneficiaries were selected from the six area councils of the FCT based on a rigorous screening process.

Akoshile disclosed that alumni members in the FCT launched a N10m scholarship endowment, saying the award covered tuition for six terms, as well as WAEC/NECO registrations.

While expressing appreciation to the alumni’s members who contributed to the endowment fund, he said a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi, single handedly gave N5m.

The chairman, who urged the students to remain focused on their education and maintain high academic standards, reiterated that they should eschew all forms of vices in their communities.

Akoshile encouraged the female students in particular not to regard gender as an inhibition, saying they had a role model in the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Unilag, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, who shattered academic records and rose to the zenith of her career.
