The management of the University of Jos (Unijos) has suspended all social activities, including parties, hiking and picnics, outside the school environment following the drowning of a 100-level student, Elvis Yoonpan Jepgwam, in the Lamingo Dam.
In a statement, Mrs Anna Yilsu, of the Directorate of Student Affairs, said all directors of social, sports; Students’ Union Government (SUG), faculty and department executives were directed to strictly adhere to the instruction.
Mrs Yilsu further directed all staff advisers to closely monitor the activities of students under their care to ensure full compliance with the directive, warning that whoever violated the directive would be severely sanctioned.

Our correspondent reports that the suspension of the social activities came after the corpse of Elvis was found in the dam days after he was drowned.
