The Registrar, Jilli Dandam, in a statement advised the students to vacate the school in order to avoid further escalation of the situation after the management met and decided that the school be closed until further notice.
The Students Union Government spokesman, Longgun Dakwon, told Daily Trust that soldiers who stormed the school, carried out the shooting and arrested some students. The Special Task Force (STF) spokesman, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, denied military involvement in the shooting, but said four students were receiving treatment in its facility. Captain Iweha said four men of the STF were also injured by miscreants who hijacked the protest, adding that security operatives evacuated the injured students to a military facility and their conditions were stable.
“The shooting was not carried out by the STF. On the first day of the protest, the students poured water on us and stoned us but we exercised restraint. Today (yesterday) there was need for reinforcements so other security agents had to join,” he said.
He cautioned students against infringing on the rights of road users, stressing that the school property was under threat because they allowed miscreants to hijack the protest.
