UniJos has capacity to recycle human waste – VC

The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Jos (UniJos), Prof Tanko Ishaya, has said that the institution has the capacity to recycle the waste that comes out from human bodies.

He said whenever there was talk about recycling people mostly thought of paper, plastic and related things, but that waste from the human body could also be recycled and that the university had the capability to do so.

He explained that sweat from humans was currently being recycled in some places into energy production, while faeces were also being turned into various meaningful things which were vital for human use.

Prof Ishaya further noted that the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project in the university was commendable, adding that WASH was a global project and a fundamental right of all because provision of sanitation facilities was vital and boosted the health of society.

The Head of the Department (HOD) of Remedial Sciences, Prof Ponchang Wuyep, said before now staff and students of the department went to other places, including the bush, to defecate, but that now it won’t be so any longer.
