The University of Jos on Thursday recognized and rewarded staff and students of the institution for their outstanding performance in the discharge of their duties, as well as varied innovation within the university.
Notable among the awardees are some students of Engineering for their innovation in constructing a car.
They are Duru Chiononso Cynthia, Allison Wisdom Ikenna, Morgan Dan Mangai, Oke Olaosebikan Blessing, Jamo Jeremiah James, Kyonev Austin A. and Johnson Nimzing Paul.
Also awarded is Duamlong Ben Lutna’an, a graduate of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts who became the Best and oldest graduating student with CPGA of 4.32 in the 2020/2021 academic session at the age of 69.

The other staff awardees are Thomas Monday and Sekyen Emmanuel, both Office Assistants who aided the arrest of thieves; Professor Christopher Goson Piwuna, Dean of Student Affairs for stabilizing Management and students’ relations during several impasses and introduction of innovation in the process of Students Union Government (SUG) Elections.
Furthermore, Dr Mary Jane Sule of the Department of Computer Science was awarded for Outstanding Research and Barriers in Science; Dr Musa Makhu of the Music Department for his creativity in composing the UNIJOS Anthem and Dr Salamatu Jidda Fada of the Department of Geography for getting an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Distinction by the University of Bangor.
Others are Dr Longwap Abdulazis Saleh of the Chemical Pathology Department for being the Best Overall Part II candidate in Chemical Pathology; Mr. Solomon Tangni Agama Acting Chief Security Officer for stabilizing and management and students’ relations during several impasses.
According to the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Tanko Ishaya, “The spirit and motive behind this award are in two-folds. The first is for the motivation of our workforce. This is to galvanise our members to put in their best in all their endeavours. Let it be known that there is a reward for hard work and dedication.
“The second aspect is to engender excellence and to raise the bar for professionalism. Without a doubt, we believe that the quest for excellence would not only reflect on our members, but it would also churn out more productivity.”
