Abductors of 25 people in Taraba demand ransom

The abductors of the 25 Youths kidnapped along Wukari-Takum road on Wednesday have demanded ransom.
Daily Trust reliability gathered that the abductors called the families of the victims and informed them that all the 25 youths including their driver are safe and in good health.
The source said the abductors have demanded ransom per each of the 25 Youths but did not mention the amount per person.
The source further informed our reporter that boys of the late notorious banditry kingpin Gana were responsible for the kidnapping.
He said their finding indicated that the kidnappers are holding the youths hostage at a forest in Benue State.
The source further informed Daily Trust that the abductors did not allow the relations of the youths to speak with them.
“The abductors told us that we should not panic as all the 25 youths and their driver are alive, safe and in good health.
“They said all they want is the payment of ransom per each person,” the source said.
Police spokesperson of Taraba State Police Command, DSP David Misal, could not be reached for comment on this development as his line was switched off when our reporter called him.

Daily Trust reports that unidentified gunmen suspected to be kidnappers had abducted 25 youths along Wukari-Takum road at 6 pm Wednesday.

Youths were on their way back to Takum from Wukari where they attended a marriage ceremony when they ran into a roadblock mounted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

The victims, who are males, Daily Trust gathered, were travelling in a commercial bus and ran into a roadblock at a spot between Kofan Amadu and Chanchangi before the gunmen commandeered the bus into the bush.

A relative of some of the victims, Mallam Muhammed Takum, told Daily Trust in a Telephone interview that the victims had attended a wedding ceremony of a friend in Wukari and were abducted while on their way back to Takum.

He said kidnappers and bandits chased away from Benue State had regrouped in the forest along Wukari-Takum and Takum-Katsina-Ala roads terrorising innocent travellers.

Muhammed further stated that up to now the kidnappers have not contacted families of the victims.

He said there is tension in the town as nobody knew the whereabouts of the youths, including the driver of the bus that conveyed them.

The Spokesperson of Taraba Police command, DSP David Misal, confirmed the incident.

“We confirmed that they are missing but not established either kidnapped or otherwise.

“Investigation has commenced,” DSP Misal said.
