if children’s safety is not safeguarded and their education guaranteed, then the future is bleak.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has called on the traditional institution to facilitate the safeguarding of children both at home and schools, saying the rate of kidnapping of school children was alarming.

Chief of Kano Field Office, UNICEF Nigeria, Mr Maulid Warfa, made the call Thursday when he visited Katsina and Daura Emirates to canvass for their support in educational development.

Mr Warfa said the future of every society depends on its children, saying if children’s safety is not safeguarded and their education guaranteed, then the future is bleak.

In his response, the Emir of Katsina, Dr Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, represented by Kauran Katsina, Alhaji Nuhu Abdulkadir, assured the entourage that the emirate will do everything possible to ensure that the programme is not only sustained but improved upon.

On his part, the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouq Umar, promised to convene stakeholders’ meeting in the emirate to ensure the continuation of the programme, adding that the programme will be expanded to cover all the five local government areas in the emirate as against only one benefitting currently.
