About 100 primary schools in Katsina State are to benefit from a UNICEF sponsored initiative aimed at improving reading among pupils in the state.
The Project Director, Reading and Numeracy Activity (RANA) Nuradin Lawal, said 60 public primary schools and 40 Tsangaya schools have been selected for the scheme, noting that a similar programme is being held in Zamfara State.
He said pupils from Primary 1 to 3 are the targeted group, adding that the scheme intends to boost capacity of teachers as well.
While calling for cooperation and support, Lawal pledged their readiness to ensure that the programme is successful.
In his remarks, Chairman of the state Primary School Board , Lawal Daura, said the government was ready to work with any well meaning organisation to move the state forward.
