UNICEF kicks off child-friendly initiative in Adamawa

The United Nations’ Children Fund (UNICEF) has kicked off its Child-Friendly Community Initiative (CFCI) programme in Adamawa and fourteen other states in the country.

Addressing stakeholders from Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) at Homtel hotels in Adamawa yesterday, the Head of UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, Mr Bhanu Pathak, explained that the programme implementation will be in collaboration with beneficiary-communities, state and local government areas.

Pathak said the programme would ensure children have access to education, birth registration, portable water, immunization and supplements for malnourished children, among others.

He said Guyuk and Fufore local government areas were the selected local governments for the take-off of the programme in Adamawa state.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Adamawa Planning Commission, Mrs Felicia Stephen, applauded UNICEF for such an intervention and assured them of the state government’s full support.

She added that the programme would enhance the achievement of the SDGs in the state.
