Chief Inwuanyanwu disclosed this in Calabar when he spoke to journalists after the institution’s third council meeting.
He said that the University won the bid to host the West African Universities Game recently after a competitive selection.
He expressed happiness that the country won the bid and that it shows the confidence the international community was having in the country and appealed to that Nigerians should show expectation cooperation.
He therefore said that they were presently shopping for at least N3 billion to enable them organize and properly host all the West African Universities that would participate.
“We are shopping for about N3 billion for the games. The amount will cover renovation of stadium, hostel and other facilities. It is something that is worth doing. It is also a major political, economic and social event.
“We have also set up a coordinating committee which I am going to be chairman to see how we are going to get on with this,’’ he said.
Chief Iwuanyanwu also disclosed that UNICAL also won the bid to host the Pan-African Universities Debate championship with the theme that will cover governance and resolution of crisis.
