Worker of the University of Benin under the umbrella of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-academic Staff Union (NASU), on Tuesday, joined a nationwide three-day protest over unpaid earned allowances and other demands.
Speaking during the protest, Chairman Uniben SSANU/Joint Association Committee (JAC), Comrade Osewa Bedrocks, said; “the protest is to sensitize the public and let government know that we can not be taken for a ride.”

He lamented the irregularities in salaries by the federal government’s Integrated Personnel and Payroll System (IPPS).
“For almost 10 months, IPPS has not remitted monies collected in form of dues and third party deductions,” he lamented.
He said the federal government wanted to strangulate them “so that we will not perform our responsibilities to members.”
He also alleged usurpation of positions made for non-teaching staff by academics and government’s failure to pay minimum wage arrears.
Also speaking, Comrade Andy Igninosa, NASU chairman, said the protest will last between 8.AM and 4.PM daily.
