UniAbuja to begin Communication, Pharmacy, Environmental science faculties

  • …says 14,307 certificates of graduates ready for collection

The Vice Chancellor, University of Abuja, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, has said the institution has got all the necessary approvals to begin three new faculties of Communication, Environmental Science and Pharmacy next year.

This is even as he said plans are underway to commence courses like Tourism and Hospitality, Agricultural Engineering and others, adding that the essence of introducing different courses is to attract people from across the world to Nigeria.

Speaking yesterday at a briefing with journalists in Abuja, in preparation for students resumption, Prof Na’Allah disclosed that the certificate of 14, 307 graduates of the university from 1994 to date has been produced, signed and are ready for collection.

He said the management has put all mercenary in place to ensure that students are not graduate without their certificates.

The Vice Chancellor also disclosed that university has developed a functioning virtual system that is fully operational and doing well.

“We taught many courses through the virtual system, we have 5,000 students taking classes through the virtual system. It means if there is any reason that students have to go home, our university is prepared to conduct all its courses virtually,” he said.

He however said that was achieved with the help of adjunct staff, saying, it was 100 per cent in-house efforts and that a lot of resources was put into it. “Virtual system enabled everything to be used to deliver world class standard education to our students. Our university can teach all courses online because we have the capacity.” he added.

He further said they are developing a policy where every lecturer will take at least one course virtually.

The VC also expressed joy over the recent acknowledgement of the varsity as a Centre of Excellence in Governance and Leadership by TETFund, saying they have received N1 billion grant from the fund in regards to that, aside the over  N5billion received for infrastructural development and others.

Prof. Na’Allah who noted that presently he is not satisfied with the look of the institution, said he is determined to change it to achieve the status of the number one university in Nigeria, as it is predestine being in the federal capital territory.

He said efforts are ongoing to restructure and redesign the institutions, adding that, they were redesigning their library to be of world class, so that students can be proud of using it.
