UniAbuja holds sports fiesta Saturday

The Students Union Government (SUG) of the University of Abuja, is set to host its sports fiesta tomorrow (Saturday).

Briefing newsmen on Friday, Ayantayo Emmanuel, the newly elected SUG President of the institution, said the activity is scheduled to be held at the School Field Mini Campus.

Emmanuel said the event won’t be a one-off, as his administration intends to continue the project regularly.

He assured students that security threats had been taken care of to ensure their safety throughout the programme.

The SUG President said the Fiesta aims at taking back the sports center of the institution, allegedly hijacked by the Gwagwalada Area Council.

He said, “Two days ago, we emerged Executives of the Students Union Government as a way of officially kickstarting activities. We are very happy, that’s why we are conscious of the issues at hand. We shall be giving our students their official first treat for electing us to serve them.

“We have provided a free means of transportation for all those who are interested, and all buses shall be conveyed at the main campus by 7am to convey students to the mini campus where the event is to be held. Also, there is provision for refreshments for all students.

“It is, however, important to note that we have a deal with security agencies, including our school security unit on the campus to provide security and monitor the movements of students and other guests throughout their stay on campus while the fiesta lasts.

“On behalf of myself and excos, we want to assure students that we have taken care of security issues and by this fiesta the hijackers will refrain from further action and activities will be returned to normalcy in the sports center going forward.

“We want to thank the School Authorities for their undying support ahead of this planned sports fiesta. This event is not just a one-time thing, as we intend to continue the project regularly as scheduled, believing that it will give our students a chance to rebuild our sporting prowess because it can serve as a grassroot where talents are discovered and later polished to become global stars.

“We look forward to having a beautiful fiesta as we jointly urge all students to be of great character and behavior during the commencement of the Fiesta. A win for us is a win for all.”
