UNESCO donates mobile devices to tackle students’ poor performance in Bauchi

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has donated customised mobile devices under its ‘School Meet the Learner Approach Program’, to Bauchi State government to enhance performance of pupils and students to boost the educational capability of the beneficiaries at the basic education level.

Presenting the devices, the Acting Director and Head of Education Sector, UNESCO Regional Office, Abuja Mr. Lamine Sow, said the donation of the customized mobile devices and launching of the programme were to support the state government in tackling poor performance at the basic level.

Speaking, while receiving the devices on Tuesday, Governor Bala Mohammed, said the project was very important in providing basic literacy to the beneficiaries and that the project was in line with his administration’s effort to digitalize teaching and learning processes in the state

Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Dr Aliyu Tilde, said about 50 citizens of the state would benefit from the UNESCO programme in six local government areas of the state.

On his part, Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y. Suleiman, requested UNESCO to consider inclusion of Ningi LGA in its ongoing programme in the state to minimise the number of out-of-school children and boost the educational capability of the beneficiaries.
