Unemployment: CSOs demand Head of Service sack over employment waiver

A coalition of civil society organizations (CSOs) on Thursday in Abuja, protested the refusal of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, to resign for undermining efforts to tackle unemployment in the country.

They also wonder why President Muhammadu Buhari did not sack her, despite the evidences of her deliberate actions in that regards.

The Co-Convener of Coalition of Civil Societies for Equity, Justice and Good Governance, Comrade Danesi Momoh, at the peaceful rally urged President Buhari to take action on the HoCSF for abusing her privilege at the detriment of other institutions in the country.

But in a swift reaction, the Director, Communications, in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Mallam AbdulGaniyu Aminu, said that there is no reason for Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan to resign or for the President to sack her.

“Instead of facing the issues we had previously raised and addressing them appropriately, the office of the Head of Service decided rather to deny the allegations with unsubstantiated points.

“The Federal Ministry of Education and National Universities Commission do not decide when Universities will recruit. These two bodies are not involved in staff audit and therefore cannot grant approval for a university to recruit. The Head of Service is being economical with the truth and must be made accountable for her anti-government and anti-youth policies.

“It is totally false that the office of the Head of Service does not recruit. Apart from the official recruitment into the federal civil service, the Head of Service has been known to conduct recruitment from the backdoor for a long time even in the face of the so-called embargo on employment,” Momoh said.

He also said that Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan is well known for her unpopular policies and anti-people sentiments, leading to her attracting lots of lawsuits and enemies because of her recklessness.

He said, “Just last month, she blocked 17 federal directors from participating in the permanent secretary examination. The case is still in court and as damning as it is, the federal government is lukewarm about out rightly sacking her.

“Not just are universities understaffed, federal colleges and even secondary schools are grossly understaffed because the Head of Service has been playing politics with sensitive national issues in gross violation of existing federal rules. This is contrary to President Buhari’s anti-corruption stance and must not be allowed to continue.”

He said the arrogance and pride of the Head of Service makes her think she’s above the law and even the country and that while the number of court cases against her and her office are piling, yet, she does not obey court orders and even simple civil service policy guidelines issued by Mr. President.

He also recalled that the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria had not long ago queried her because of the numerous complaints received against her by Nigerians.

“Her inability to head the warning of the Senate and stop her anti people and anti government policies is enough confirmation that she is consumed only by her selfish desires and not national service,” Momoh said.

Responding Dr. Yemi-Esan through the Director, Communications, in her office, Mallam AbdulGaniyu Aminu, said that the protesters were not representing a genuine interest of the country.

“The Head of Service is a respecter of law and all her actions are being guided by extant rules stipulated by the service. Those who want here to violate the rules, for selfish interest should have a rethink.

“Nigerians would not tolerate anyone violating the laws of the land and the embargo on employment was placed by the Federal Government. Those not exempted cannot be granted waiver,” he said.
