Unemployment: Centre wants state of emergency, N774bn for job creation

The Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) has urged the federal government to declare a state of emergency on unemployment in the country.

Executive Director of CHRICED, Comrade Ibrahim Zikirullahi, made the call at a State of the Nation news conference yesterday in Abuja, tagged, ‘2023, Most Tragic and Turbulent Year in the life of Nigerians’.

He also urged government to vote N784bn at N1bn for job creation in each of the 774 local government areas (LGAs) across the country.

He said the disbursement of the fund should be based on the unique characteristics of each local government area.

“The call had become necessary because the challenge of the cost of living had continued to pose a significant existential threat to millions of Nigerians, hence the need to put measures in place to address it.”
