Unemployed man charged with stealing laptop in church

A 32-year-old man, Francis Joseph, was yesterday charged before an Igbosere chief magistrate court with allegedly stealing one laptop valued at N375,000.

Joseph was arraigned by policemen at the Ilasa police station, Lagos, on a one-count criminal charge of stealing the laptop on February 13, 2019 at about 2pm at the Elevation Church, No. 1, Redemption Drive, Jakande 1st Gate, Lekki, Lagos.

The stolen Apple Mac book laptop was said to be the property of Mr Osaretin Eyimisan, a member of the church.

He was said to have been caught on a closed-circuit television camera as he was allegedly committing the offence inside the church’s technical room where he removed the laptop from a bag and transferred it into his own bag. He was then apprehended in the church’s premises and handed over to police.

Police investigation showed that the accused person had no means of livelihood, and that he had sold the stolen laptop at the Computer Village, Ikeja, for N150,000.

When the charge was read to Joseph, he pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Mrs M. O. Ope-Agbe admitted him to N200, 000 bail and fixed further hearing for August 10, 2019.
