There is uneasy calm in Lagos over the proposed October 1st rally for Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, Daily Trust can report.
The rally is being planned to hold at the Lekki Tollgate, the epicentre of the #EndSARS rally, among other venues, which rocked the state and other parts of Nigeria in 2020.
The proposed rally is generating tension in Lagos as the supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, are planning a counter-rally.
Both are said to be working round the clock to stage the counter rally amidst fear and apprehension over a possible breakdown of law and order in the state.
Already some lawyers loyal to Tinubu, who is a former governor of the state, have filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Lagos to stop LP, its candidates, and supporters from holding the rally tagged, “#Obidatti23 Forward Ever Rally”.
The motion for the injunction is to be heard today (Wednesday) by Justice Daniel Osiagor, who fixed the date last week after taking arguments from the parties on the mode of service of court processes, among others.
Despite the court process, sources told our correspondent that both parties are already warming up for the rally and counter-rally.
When contacted yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Benjamin Hundeyin, did not respond to our correspondent’s inquiry.
However, a public affairs analyst, Comrade Achike Chude, in a chat with our correspondent, cautioned that a counter-rally would be a “recipe for chaos and disorder.”
