The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs have commenced a stakeholder dialogue to address women empowerment issues.

The meeting tagged, “A high-level multi-sectoral roundtable meeting” had in attendance stakeholders from different civil society and gender-based organisations and international partners.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Ohanenye, said the meeting will provide a platform for direct engagement and insights among stakeholders to develop strategies and initiatives that will drive meaningful change in the lives of women and girls across Nigeria.

“Your presence underscores the collective commitment to addressing the challenges and barriers that hinder gender equality and women’s empowerment in our country,” she said.

The ministry’s work plan, which was presented to the stakeholders, listed economic and skills empowerment programmes for women in society.

Earlier, the programme lead of the UNDP Gender and Human Rights, Onyinye Belinda Ndubuisi, who assured that the agency would continue to support the gender programmes in Nigeria, said the event has provided stakeholders with a platform to collaborate on the way forward on the issues of women and girls.

Stakeholders made presentations on their efforts to support women with skills acquisition, fight against gender-based violence and others.
