Katsina United have qualified for the Nigeria National League (NNL) playoff after they defeated visiting NAF FC of Abuja 3-1 over the weekend.

Since they started their campaign in the NNL following last season’s relegation from the Nigerian topflight, Katsina United have won all their five home matches.

They have also won one and drawn two away matches to become the first club to qualify for the Super 8 playoff with two matches left to play in their group.

Playing in Group A2 along with Green Beret, FWC Abuja, Jigawa Golden Stars, City FC and NAF, Katsina United who recently got a new chairman, Alhaji Surajo Baba Malumfashi, are looking for a quick return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The ‘Chaji boys’ as Katsina United are called will play their two remaining matches away from home against City FC Abuja and Green Beret.

An elated captain, Usman Bara’u, told Daily Trust that Katsina United are not resting on their oars as he said they are more concerned with what will happen at the Super 8.

“I thank God for what we have achieved. Qualifying for the Super 8 is the first hurdle that we have surmounted but it is not yet uhuru. We are looking forward to the playoffs where we will fight to return to the NPFL.

“On behalf of my teammates, I want to thank the State Government for giving us all the necessary support for us to achieve the good results. We promise to make everyone proud,” he said.
