The United Nations’ Women have urged the 106 graduating female artisans in various fields under the training of the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) to break all barriers that would prevent them from excelling in male-dominated construction industries.
The UN Women Country Representative in Nigeria, Ms Comfort Lamptey, made the call in celebration of the 2020 International Women’s Day (IWD) with the theme, “I am Generation Equal: Realising Women’s Right” recently at the graduation ceremony of the advanced Female Artisan Programme organised by the NCWD.
The female artisans who graduated in the skills of Higher Class include 23 women in Plaster of Paris (POP), 22 in Tilling and Masonry, 21 in Air conditioner repairs, 20 in Generation repairs and 20 in Plumbing and Piping.
Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dame Pauline Tallen, who was represented by Director of Women and Gender of the Ministry, Mrs Funke Oladipo, noted that the programme was structured to give the beneficiaries a voice in a male-dominated profession.
