The United Nations Women (UN Women) Country Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Beatrice Eyong, says it has rolled out policies that will drive the growth of women in real estate and other critical sectors toward contributing to the growth and development of the country.
Eyong made the disclosure at the Women’s Economic Empowerment Through Affirmative Procurement in Africa event in Abuja.
Speaking on the essence of the event, Eyong said: “At this open day, our dialogues will focus on Women’s Economic Empowerment through Affirmative Procurement in Africa, the challenges identified, the key achievements highlighted by country offices, the policy environment needed to stimulate women’s growth in critical sectors including real estate, manufacturing, and others as well as increased access to public procurement opportunities.
“Also, the private sector operators in Nigeria have begun the mobilisation of $25 million in a bid to close the gender gap in Nigeria,” she stated.

Earlier in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Vitalis Emeka Obi, assured that his ministry would adopt gender-responsive budgeting and build capacities of budget desk officers on implementing gender-responsive budgets in various Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government and create a conducive environment for growth and development of women in critical sectors of the economy.
