The senator representing Bauchi South senatorial district, Lawal Yahaya Gumau, has lost his bid to return to the Senate.
Gumau lost out in the race for the Bauchi South ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Alhaji Shehu Buba Umar.

Buba Umar polled 188 votes to beat Gumau, who polled 182 votes in the primary that was concluded in the early hours of Monday.
Other contestants were Yusuf Ladan, who polled four votes; Dr Safiya Iliyasu, a female aspirant, and Barr Ibrahim Zailani who both polled no vote.
Also, a former APC chairman in Bauchi, Uba Ahmed Nana, has emerged as the APC candidate for Bauchi Central.
Ahmed Nana polled 238 votes to defeat former Senator Isah Hamma Misau, who got 75, while Abubakar Shehu garnered 18 votes.
Siraj Ibrahim Tanko emerged as the APC candidate for Bauchi North, polling 189 votes to defeat other aspirants, including the incumbent senator, Adamu Bulkachuwa, who scored no vote. Ibrahim Baba got 177 votes.
