Ugbah mourns Dantata, Aluko

Ugbah said yesterday in Abuja that the death of three of Nigeria’s most illustrious sons, Chief (Dr)  Matthew Towo Mbu, Professor Aluko and Alhaji Dantata last week was a colossal loss to the country.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have received the news of the passing away this week of the three of Nigeria’s most illustrious sons. I join millions of Nigerians all over the country and from different walks of life in mourning these great leaders, who have left indelible marks on the national canvass. It is to late Chief Mbu’s credit that although he occupied the national space for about 50 years, either as a public servant or businessman, he died without a single scandal to his name,” Ugbah said in a statement signed by the Director General of his campaign organisation, Professor David Iornem.

He added that though Mbu started his career as Nigeria’s first High Commissioner to Britain at a

very young age of 22, and went on to have a fulfilling public service career, he was not infected by the arrogance of power, nor was he bitten by the bug of political desperation, saying though he has passed on his greatest legacy is his public service record.

He said Professor Aluko, who was an erudite and world-class economist, would be mostly remembered for his informed and foresighted comments in 1986, during the devaluation of the Naira under Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) that the dollar would shortly exchange for N100, adding that today it was far in excess of that.
