The next big UFC event of the year is just around the corner as UFC257 takes place this weekend with the big headline fight of Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor as they’re set to run a fight back that took place way back in 2014 – there are a lot of factors that could change the outcome which the first-time round saw McGregor win by TKO in less than two minutes.
The big change obviously being that Poirier has remained active since their fight and has improved dramatically as a fighter, whether or not this is enough will be answered at the weekend.

On the other hand, Conor McGregor has been out of the fight game for a long time, fighting just twice in the past four years – once against Khabib which ended in a loss, and the other in a victory early in 2020 against Cowboy Cerrone – in the same period of time, Poirier has fought 8 times against tough competition including Eddie Alvarez, Justin Gaethje, and Max Holloway.
The fight could bring a lot of change to the lightweight division, however, as will another lightweight bout on the main card between Dan Hooker and Michael Chandler – with the current champ Khabib being in retirement, many were questioning whether or not he would come back to the sport or if he would vacate his belt, which is a question that still remains up in the air – but in a recent meeting with Dana White, it was revealed that a huge performance from either of the lightweight fights at 257 could encourage him to come back.
He has convincingly beaten both Poirier and McGregor, and with the only fight fans may be interested in seeing being with McGregor due to the hate between the two, it is still looking increasingly unlikely that the dominant champ will return.
With the unlikelihood of Khabib returning and three of the top 5 lightweight fighters on the card at 257, it may not be long before we see a new lightweight champ.
Whilst Justin Gaethje is fresh off a loss against Khabib, he has also lost to Poirier, and with uncertainty around how committed Conor McGregor is to his UFC comeback, there could be space for a new champ.
A lot of this is still up in the air and a strong performance or new announcement could change all of that, but will certainly help this fight be more exciting.
Punters will have a great opportunity for this fight too as players can bet in Nigeria with bettingsites.ng on this fight and any upcoming fight for the UFC.
Could this weekend be the unofficial end of the McGregor legacy, or is he back on his path to reclaiming UFC gold over four years after giving it up?
