UDUS communities jubilate as works resume on Kwalkwalawa road

Students of Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto and other members of the university community are in jubilation after work resumed at the Kwalkwalawa road which had been abandoned by the previous government.

The 12.5-kilometre road which links the university with the state metropolis and environs was destroyed by the 2010 flood disaster experienced in the state.

The road had before now suffered several closure, distorting academic calendar of the school.

It was awarded for total rehabilitation by the Jonathan administration but the contractor abandoned the project allegedly for lack of cash backing.

Our reporter who observed that all the bridges destroyed by the flood are now being reconstructed in preparation for the reconstruction of the road while rehablitation of the other portion of the road leading into the premises of the university was ongoing.

Speaking to newsmen, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Abdul Zuru expressed appreciation to the federal government for re-mobilizing the contractor which he said would end their night mare.

According to him, over 20,000 students ply the road every day.

He also thanked Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar and the member representing, Wamakko-Kware federal constituency, Alhaji Abdullahi Wamakko whose intervention he  said made the project possible.

According to him, the project symbolizes the mutual relationship between the executive and the legislature, saying the portion of the road leading to the premises of the university was awarded at the cost of N128.6 billion.

Some of the students and farmers interviewed expressed happiness over the project which they believed would end their transportation hardship.
