UBTH dismisses 3 staff over misconduct

The Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) disclosed that the hospital has dismissed three of its staff over alleged misconduct.

He said two other workers of the hospital are also facing investigation by a disciplinary committee over allegations bordering on financial impropriety.

The chief medical director in a statement signed by Joshua Uwaila, the hospital’s spokesperson, said the termination is in line with public service rules.

“Three staff of the hospital recently got their appointment terminated after due consideration by the board of management for various offences.

“Two others are at various stages of disciplinary investigation to determine their culpability or otherwise with regards to certain allegations bordering on financial impropriety,” he said.

Obaseki said he would not shield any erring staff who is found wanting in the event of the establishment of a case of misconduct against him or her.

He advised members of the public to stop any form of assault on health workers in the course of doing their duties, promising to protect staff and students in the performance of their lawful duties.

He noted that some relatives of a deceased patient of the hospital were recently convicted for three months imprisonment with an option of fine for assaulting some medical personnel who were on duty at its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and also destroyed some properties upon the death of a kinsman.

He, however, assured of the hospital commitment to providing quality healthcare services to its teeming patients.
