The United States of America (USA) is holding a three-day training workshop for personnel of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) on latest techniques in combating emergencies.
Speaking at the start of the workshop at the FFS headquarters in Abuja on Monday, Douglas Black, the Security Governance Initiative (SGI) Coordinator in Nigeria said there was a need to improve how emergency is tackled around the globe.
“We are bringing our personnel from the U.S but we are not here to dictate what to do but we are just here to tell you what worked for us and didn’t work for us.
“At the end of the day, Nigerians will just have to develop their own solution for Nigeria,” the Los Angeles City Fire department personnel noted.
Black said the team would conduct assessments to see how best to assist the Nigerian government in emergency management.
“We want to find out what the roles of the NSCDC are, the fire service, the police, the road safety and all who contribute to the emergency management in Nigeria,” he added.
On his part, the Controller General of FFS, Joseph Anebi said since the world was becoming a global village, it was pertinent for the Service to measure up to the global standard.
Anebi who was represented at the event by Engr Callistus Agu, the head of procurement of the FFS, said the daily emergencies happening worldwide had brought about the need for the FFS to sharpen its readiness.
He said over 100 personnel of the Service and other sister agencies were participating in the workshop which will end on Wednesday.
