The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Kola Sodipo, has confirmed the death of two policemen and two bankers in the Friday armed robbery attack on banks in Ikirun, Osun state.

 

The armed robbers who raided branches of First Bank, Skye Bank and Union Bank in Ikirun had killed the two policemen and two bankers before another detachment of police overpowered them and killed four of them (robbers).


A statement by the police commissioner said four members of the robbery gang, Aderibigbe Oluwaseun, Ndubisi David, Ayuba Abubaka Saliu and Nuhu Jimoh were arrested and three AK47 rifles with 124 rounds of live ammunitions recovered from them.


The CP said police responded promptly to distress calls from the banks and exhibited gallantry and professional expertise in combating the armed robbers who were armed with sophisticated weapons and improvised explosives devices.

 

The police boss also disclosed that N7.5 million and a Nissan Sunny Car used by the robbers used for the operation were recovered from them.

 

The CP said the Armoured Personnel Carrier provided for the police in Osun state helped them to overpower the armed robbers. He said a full scale investigation into the incident has commenced and that the fleeing members of the gang would be apprehended.
