The Police Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Saturday, said one Sakiru Famuyiwa has been arrested in connection with the alleged crime.

According to him, the suspect and one other, who is now at large, sneaked into the children’s department of the church and took away the two minors.

Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by policemen at Ibara Divisional Police Headquarters.

He said, “On their way out with the stolen children, a vigilant member of the church sighted them and raised alarm, consequent upon which the congregants pursued them and apprehended one of them.”

He said the suspect was about to be lynched when the police arrived at the scene.

The children were rescued by the church members and handed over to their parents.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, to have ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti-kidnapping unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department.

Oyeyemi added the CP also ordered a manhunt for the accomplice.
