Weekly Trust visited the deceased’s family house where he spoke with relations of late Aminu. Malam Auwal Jushi confirmed the story, saying that two people (Aminu and Mai Kwazo) have died while another is receiving treatment at the hospital.

Malam Auwal said the incident occurred when Maryam, a young girl in Alhaji Tsalha Mai Qusa’s residence pleaded with Aminu to help her retrieve her cell phone which had fallen into the well in their compound, promising to pay him N1500 as reward.

Aminu, according to Malam Auwal, called his friend Nuhu, also promising to give him N500 if he assist retrive the phone.

Nuhu was said to have obliged Aminu’s offer. The duo then got a water pumping machine and started drawing out the water from the well. They later went inside the well with the machine. Because of the smoke oozing out of the machine and before the two could realise what was happening, they had been weakened by the smoke. The girl then ran out in search of help.

When Malam Mohammed Mai Qwazo, a neighbour, heard Amina shouting for help he rushed to the scene to render assistance. He tried pulling them out of the well. But by then, they had already suffered burns because the machine was hot. He successfully helped Nuhu and Aminu out of the well, remaining himself. In the end, he couldn’t get anyone to help him out and he became exhausted from trying. That was how he fell back inside and died. However, Nuhu and Aminu were rushed to the hospital. Aminu later died too, leaving Nuhu in the hospital receiving treatment.

Weekly Trust visited the hospital to have one or two words with Nuhu but his relations and hospital attendants said he needed time to rest.

Weekly Trust later found out how Maryam’s phone fell into the well in the first instance. It was gathered that it was her father who threw the cell phone into the well when he caught her chatting on phone with a male friend after her wedding arrangement plans had been concluded with a different person. The father was even said to have ordered that no one should go into the well to retrieve the phone, but Maryam was afraid of losing her contacts saved on the sim card. That was how she got Aminu and Nuhu into the well after her father had left home.
