2 killed in Lagos multiple auto crashes

Two people were confirmed dead on Saturday in a multiple accident involving about four vehicles in Lagos.

The incident happened at Al-Maruf Bus-stop inward Abule-Egba along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

However eyewitness stated that the fatalities might be more than two.

A source who witnessed the accident said the accident was caused by a Lexus bus which suddenly came out from a corner near the bus-stop.

“The bus suddenly entered the Express and the trailer loaded with drinks coming from Abeokuta end of the expressway rammed into a yellow bus carrying passengers. At least four people died,” the source said.

Director-General of the state Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyitolu confirmed the accident.

He said, “Upon arrival of the Agency’s officials at the incident scene, a multiple vehicular accident involving three cars and a truck conveying alcoholic drinks was discovered.

“The truck had fallen on its side spilling its contents. The Agency’s heavy equipment has been activated for the recovery operation.”

According to him, two adult males unfortunately lost their lives in the accident.

He said their remains were recovered from the wreckage and handed over to authorities for transport to the mortuary.

He said the other affected vehicles have been recovered from the carriage way to a lay by with the use of the Agency’s light tow truck in order to ease traffic pressure.
