Two young men were gruesomely murdered yesterday by suspected warriors in a community in Ebonyi State.
The deceased were said to have been killed while on their way to the farm to cultivate cassava in Effium, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
This came barely six months after two clans signed an agreement for a ceasefire following four years of war.
The lifeless bodies of the two were made public in a trending video on social media with their heads chopped off from their bodies.
However, the two warring clans – Ezza and Effium, have not issued any official statement concerning the incident which occurred on Saturday.
Daily Trust on Sunday reports that Ezza and Effium clans have since 2021 been engaged in communal clashes which have claimed many lives and property worth billions of naira.
The cause of the clash was earlier linked to motor park leadership tussle between indigenes of the two clans.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi State, Joshua Ukandu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the video but said he was yet to get official feedback from officers in the area.
“Yes, I have seen the video and you know that area is a war zone, so I’m still hoping for official confirmation from officers in the area,” he explained.
