Twitter followers have continued to react angrily to the death of the pregnant female lawyer, Bolanle Raheem, allegedly killed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Lagos.
The two policemen on duty when the incident occurred in the Ajah area of the state on Sunday were also said to have been detained.
Raheem, her sister, and four children were returning from an eatery in their car around 11 am when the policemen flagged them down under the Ajah Bridge.
The ASP was said to have shot at the moving vehicle and a bullet hit Raheem who later died at the hospital she was rushed to.
While reacting to the situation, a Twitter user, Olaniyan Sunday Olubunmi opined that there is an impending danger as police officers have started to take the law into their hands.
He said, “Fire is burning on the mountain now & nobody seems to be on the run. Police have started again but nobody is saying anything to caution them but when members of the public take laws into their own hands now, the whole Nigeria will catch fire. HAPPY TRIGGER POLICE.”(sic)
Popular skit maker, Adebowale Adedayo, fondly known as Mr Macaroni via his verified Twitter account, @mrmacaronii, accused officers from the Ajiwe division where the suspect was attached to of being rude and manipulative.
He said, “Most policemen in the Ajiwe division are rude, manipulative, and even violent. If you meet them @ Abraham Adesanya, Ajah Bridge, or along Ado-Badore always pray for protection because you don’t even know what will make them trigger.”
Replying to the skit maker and actor, @mrmacaronii, another user of the microblogging platform identified as Regina said, “It’s not about tribe or religion. We have all seen it. If Nigeria is good it is good for us all but if it is bad it is for all. You don’t know who will take the next bullet. All I will still say is vote wisely.”
Also, Azeez Adegoke Rasaki claimed via a tweet, “Ajiwe police station is full of criminals. They work with land grabbers, armed robbers and fraudsters. This is not just criticism but it is based on experience. Do not report a crime to them they are part of the criminals. Especially the DPO who uses bleaching cream.”
Also expressing his opinion, the Twitter user with the handle, Royale_ayo, said that he would be happy if the Nigerian Police Force hears about the incident, accusing most of its personnel of being poor in discharging their duty.
“I’ll be happy if NPF sees this… but seriously most of your personnel are poor in their duty, talking from what I witnessed 2 days ago. Imagine a police officer releasing in the air cause of a misunderstanding between a road user and a customs officer… like what if that bullet…?(sic)
Emmanuel Okoruwa accused personnel of the Nigerian Police Force of playing god once they are with their trifles.
He said, “Once a Policeman is with a rifle he suddenly takes the place of god. See as this man who maybe might have been under the influence of something murdered a woman and left her children motherless on a Christmas day. Nigeria Police are the most lawless in the world.”
John of Lagos further accused the government of being complicit in all of the misconduct perpetuated by the Nigerian Police via a tweet.
He said, “The government is complicit in all of the misconduct perpetuated by the Nigerian Police. This is because wherever wrongdoers are protected and go unpunished, wrongdoing will become a lifestyle. They are daily emboldened by the fact that the government will do nothing.”
Another tweep Victor simply said, “This is becoming one too many. Who is next? It could be you. It could be me. It could be any of our relatives or family members. When do we put a stop to this? Remember a bullet only knows it victims.”
