Though our correspondent learnt that two persons died in the fracas, police spokesman Daniel Ezeala confirmed only one death in the incident which also resulted in the burning of six houses and destruction of property. It spilled over to early Monday but police said it had been contained.
Ezeala explained that council officials’ effort to relocate the goat market to a safer location sparked off the disagreement resulting in the death of one Musa Zakari.
Chairman of the local government, Dr. Innocent Onu, declared a curfew between 7pm and 6am in order to check escalation of the crisis. Onu told journalists in Makurdi yesterday that normalcy had returned to the area as he confirmed the killings and burning of houses. He said the situation had been brought under control as security men had been deployed.
