Truck crushes 4 traders in Lagos

Four hawkers have died in a road crash at Iyana-Era bus stop, on the Mile 2-Badagry expressway, Lagos, last night.

The truck was heading towards Okomaiko from Agbara when it ran into the traders by the side of the road around midnight.

It was learnt that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle as a result of brake failure.

Witnesses said six other persons sustained injuries in the accident.

“The driver was heading for Okomaiko from Agbara and he was driving at a high speed, probably because of the time. Unfortunately, it had a brake failure and the driver tried to use the median to stop the truck from going across the road. Unfortunately, the driver couldn’t and the truck ran over the deceased who are mainly women,” one of the witnesses said.

A police officer, who claimed to have witnessed the accident, said the causality figure would have been higher if it had happened during the day.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, did not answer his calls or reply to text messages sent to him.
