Troops repel Zabarmari attack

Troops have on Sunday evening repelled what a resident called a ‘deadly’ attack on Zabarmari town, Jere Local Government, Borno State.

The incident happened around 6 pm at a checkpoint near the town where troops overpowered the advancing insurgents.

A resident, Malam Mikail, said “the attackers appeared in large number but unknown to them the soldiers who were combat-ready opened fire and drove them away.

“The incident would have been deadly.”

Mikail further said, “We later saw smoke billowing around Adamari town but it was unclear if it was connected to the attack.”

Farmers from the town were slaughtered at rice fields in nearby Koshebe village where they have gone to harvest rice plants late last year.

Over 43 people, including two children, were killed in November’s attack.
