Troops repel B/Haram attack on Yobe town

Security operatives have foiled an attack on Babbangida town, the headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Suspected Boko Haram members launched the attack on the town on Sunday evening.

The troops were said to have overpowered the terrorists, forcing them to retreat.

Mustapha Musa, a resident of the town, said the shootings had stopped.

He said sporadic shootings of the attackers scared the residents who scampered for safety in the bush.

“I spoke to some of my neighbours and they confirmed to me that they are still in the bush because they are not sure whether the insurgents have actually left”.

He said the insurgents also made an attempt to infiltrate the town on Friday.

The army’s acting spokesman of Sector 2 Operation Hadin Kai in Damaturu, Lieutenant Kennedy Anyewau, did not pick calls put to his line on the matter.

Meanwhile, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim,  the Police Public Relations Officer,  Yobe State Command, confirmed the incident, but said that there was no cause for alarm as at the time of filing this report.

“I got in touch with my officers who corroborated the attack but they assured me they were on alert even though calm has returned.”

Babbangida is located 50 kilometres from Damaturu, the state capital and is one of the towns that suffered several attacks by the insurgents in the state.
