Troops rearrest another escaped prisoner in Plateau

Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), maintaining peace in Plateau and some parts of Bauchi states and Southern Kaduna, have rearrested another escaped prisoner in Bisichi town of Barikin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Major General Chukuemeka Okonkwo, commander of the operation, who paraded the arrested prisoner at the headquarters of the command on Tuesday, gave the name of the inmate as Adam Yusuf.

Yusuf was among the six notorious inmates who escaped at High Court Barkin Ladi on 23 July 2020 while entering the court for hearing and following the incident, a manhunt operation by the OPSH had led to arrest of Mallam Mohammed Ibrahim, one of the escapees who had been handed over to Nigerian Correctional Service in the state bringing the total rearrested to two.

According to the commander, the latest arrest by the troops was made in an abandoned house at Bisichi Village of Barkin Ladi, Plateau State at about 1530Hrs on Tuesday 18 August 2020.

He said: “The 19 years old inmate has confessed to be among the escapees.

“It is pertinent to stress that concerted efforts are ongoing to rearrest the remaining.

“Information that may lead to the re-arrest of the remaining inmates is therefore solicited from the members of the general public.

He, however, said the rearrested criminal would be handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Service, Plateau State Command for necessary action.
