The Special Task Force (STF) is carrying out a raid on some parts of Jos, capital of Plateau State after sending an alert of an impending Boko Haram attack.
A resident around the British-America Junction along Murtala Mohammed Way, and Rikkos along Bauchi Ring Road, on Sunday afternoon had alerted the taskforce, it’s spokesman, Capt. Ikedichi Iweha told Daily Trust.
“We had an alert from somebody, who reported strange movement of certain persons at the area, and we acted promptly,” said Capt. Iweha.
Daily Trust learnt some persons were sited along a river running behind a worship centre at the British-America area, and were traced to have come from Rikkos area, raising suspicion that they had unclear motives. This raised concerns among residents, who then made distress calls to the STF.
The STF spokesman said the ongoing operation which has seen the deployment of a large number of troops and no fewer than six Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) commenced from about noon of Sunday, and lasted all through the night till Monday.
“We are fully on ground there, and the raid continues until we are certain the area is not facing any threats,” he said.
Although Daily Trust gathered the operation led to arrest of some persons, Capt. Iweha declined to make comments, insisting that the STF would not make public its full mode of operation.
