Troops kill ISWAP terrorists, destroy hideouts in Borno

The Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has killed several Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements and destroyed their hideouts at Tudun Wulgo and Tumbun Gini on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno State.

A statement signed by Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche, said this was achieved through air strikes executed on Wednesday as part of a new subsidiary Operation tagged “WUTAR TABKI”.

He said the operation took place after series of aerial surveillance missions had indicated that the two locations, with structures and logistics items camouflaged under the dense vegetation, were being used as staging areas where some ISWAP leaders and their fighters meet to plan and launch attacks.

Enenche disclosed that the air task force dispatched Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets and helicopter gunships to engage the locations.

He said the attack aircraft scored devastating hits in the target areas, destroying some structures and neutralizing several of the terrorists.

Nigerian military authorities have been reporting successes recorded by troops against insurgents in the region, but the militants continue to launch deadly attacks.

Some Nigerians have been calling for the dismissal of service chiefs, although others argue that the measure may not bring the desired change.
