Troops kill Boko Haram insurgents, rescue over 2,000 civilians

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have rescued over 2, 000 civilians and killed many Boko Haram insurgents during its operation at Lake Chad Island.

The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Rogers Nicholas, disclosed this during a briefing on Thursday held at the Military Control and Command Centre, Maiduguri.

 

He added that the troops also rescued one of the Chibok girls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in 2014.

 

Preliminary investigations show the young girl identified as Salomi Pagu is the same as the Chibok girl published on serial 86 of the online list of abducted Chibok girls.

 

The girl, who was intercepted in the company of another young girl, Jamila Adams, about 14 years old with a child, are in the safe custody of troops and receiving medical attention.

 

Maj-Gen Nicholas disclosed that Boko Haram suffered heavy casualties during the operation as Gun truck and armoured vehicles were recovered from the insurgents.
