Troops arrest kidnappers, rescue victims in Plateau, Kogi

Troops and security operatives have arrested some suspected kidnappers and rescued victims in Plateau and Kogi states.

In Plateau, troops from Operation Safe Haven arrested two notorious kidnap kingpins, Mohammed Musa (alias Mamman) and Mallam Alhassan Samaila, in Rafiki, Bassa Local Government Area.

Major Samson Zhakom, spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, said during the operation, security personnel recovered 439 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition concealed in a 4-liter engine oil container.

He said the suspects disguised as transporters to deliver ammunition to bandits in Plateau, Kaduna, and Zamfara states.

He said investigations are ongoing to arrest other syndicate members and recover additional weapons.

In Kogi State, a joint operation involving police, vigilante groups, and private security forces arrested four suspected kidnappers and rescued 10 abducted victims in Ajaokuta.

Among the rescued were a woman and her four children, who had been abducted after kidnappers flagged down their bus along the Ochadamu-Itobe-Anyigba road.

Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, said the operation followed credible intelligence.

“This is a warning signal to criminals that the current administration is determined to make Kogi a safe place for all,” Fanwo said.

The rescued victims are in good health, while the suspects remain in police custody for further investigation and prosecution, he added.
