The National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kano has dismissed the petition by Muhammad Alhassan of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and affirmed Muhammad Salisu Ibrahim of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the Doguwa State Assembly Constituency election.
The three man panel led by Justice R.O Odogu who delivered the judgement after considering the legal issues and objections raised by the first respondent concluded that the petitioners could not be able to prove their case with sufficient evidence before the tribunal and eventually dismissed the petition for lacking in merit.

Muhammad Alhassan and his party had approached the tribunal challenging the election that produced Ibrahim. The petitioners alleged that the election was characterised by over-voting in some polling units, which according to them substantially affected the outcome of the election and prayed the court to order for a supplementary poll.
But the court dismissed the petition for lack of merit and equally awarded the cost of N200,000 against the petitioners.
